5 Songs I Love w/KTL

New-York based Singer-Songwriter KTL recently unveiled his latest Alt-Folk offering 'When I'm Awake'. KTL utilises electronic elements to create an alt-folk track that’s raw and emotive while being cinematic. We caught up with KTL to find out more about the music he loves and why.

1. Confirmation - Westerman

"One of the catchiest choruses I can remember hearing. Everything from Westerman’s melody writing, to the harmonies, the stripped back verses, and his blend of classic sounds with more modern production has made this and his other work some of my favorite music I’ve heard in the last few years."

2. Conrad - Ben Howard

"In the summer of 2015, I had just graduated college and moved to San Francisco, and coincidentally had just discovered Ben Howard. There’s a haunting beauty to this song that still transports me back to that moment in time and makes me immediately picture foggy afternoons and golden hour in the bay."

3. Big Hen (Steal My Joy) - Fred Again

"This is the song I’m loving the most right now. There’s so much happening with the production here, but it still feels simple overall, and something about the vibe Fred has achieved just feels perfect to me. I’m not sure if it’s the drum riff, the piano, the sampling or something else, but I’ve had it on repeat for months and don’t see myself getting tired of it any time soon."

4. Step - Radiohead

"Radiohead has been my favorite band since I was 13, and it started with this song. Hearing the guitar riff for the first time hooked me harder than anything I’ve ever heard since. The mark of a great artist for me is making music that holds up to relistening, and I still find myself appreciating new details I find in their songs years later. There are dozens of Radiohead songs I could’ve picked here but I owe it to this one for being my real intro to the band."

5. Stop This Train - John Mayer

"This was the first slap-picking song I ever learned, and it really influenced my development as a guitarist. The instrumentation is beautiful, the story and message of the song are moving and cohesive, the guitar part is just fun to play, and this song is absolutely timeless."
