Hey Audrie Powell, welcome to FLEX! How are you?
I’m doing great super excited for this release.
Congratulations on your new single ‘Levi Jeans’- what inspired this particular track?
I was fully working on becoming an r and b artist and singer. I started moving in the direction of auto-tune similar to Doja Cat because it was really fun. I had my first show and because the song was auto-tune I was singing along with the track rather than actually singing for me, I want to share my real natural voice so that was discouraging for me. I started seeing a guy that was always listening to country music and he loved it when would sing along. He would always say I should make a country song. He really inspired me to go back to my old ways (when I was a kid I was always singing taylor swift, Carrie Underwood, and Miley Cyrus) so when I re-sparked the country it just felt right. It felt like I was singing from my heart and not for what was trendy but for what felt right.
And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?
My mind is most creative at night so I prefer to do nighttime sessions.
How was the recording and writing process?
My super talented and good friend Andre records and produces all my music. When I go to his house for a session, we start by deciding what kind of song we want to make/what the vibe is. He starts from scratch by making the beat then he puts down melodies and I’ll put a couple down too. Then we arrange the melody and lastly we just the right words to the melodies.
For viewers that don’t know Audrie Powell, how would you describe your sound?
My current sound is an acoustic natural modern country I think even if you don’t usually listen to country you could still enjoy the song.
And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?
I love to be outside. I love camping, and anything on a board so snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, etc. I love to be in forest trees but mostly I love the beach it’s my happy place for sure.
