+GLDN- (pronounced 'Golden') is an up-and-coming artist from Maryland, United States. His name is an acronym that stands for growing, learning, and dodging negativity. A way of life he believes everyone should embody and emulate.
His latest offering ‘Electric’ is a hip-hop, pop song filled with lots of energy that will make the listener want to dance.
We sat down with +GLDN- to discuss his music and much more. Here is what he had to say:
Hey +GLDN-, welcome to FLEX! How are you?
I’m doing amazing! I feel on top of my game right now, and I’m just enjoying life every day for what it has to offer.
Congratulations on your latest single 'Electric’ - what inspired this particular track?
Thank you. A girl who has been there for me through thick and thin for many years now is what inspired this track. She’s somebody I can undoubtedly count on and know will be in my life for many years to come. She’s been my rock and this song is just a pure illustration of the love I have for her.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
No specific event inspired this track - just the timeless and amazing years spent together enjoying life.
And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?
I wouldn’t say I have to be in a certain mood to write, I just let it come to me. It can happen at any time of the day and I’ll just tap into a zen for as long as I feel it while I let the magic happen.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
I haven’t decided if there will be a full music video for 'Electric' yet, but there will be many short visuals for it via Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process for this was one of my most organic and natural music experiences ever. It sounds cliche to say, but it’s like this entire song came to me in a dream - the moment I heard the beat, everything just came out so fluidly without a second thought. 'Electric' is truly one of my most favorite songs I’ve ever made.
For viewers that don’t know +GLDN-, how would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as energetic. Whether I’m singing my heart out or putting my all into a verse for more of a rap type of song, I give it everything I’ve got. I always look for catchy beats that’ll make you bop your head to them and then I try to find what I call “the pocket” of the beat. It’s like riding a wave and I always try to make it sound seamless. I don't think any of my songs sound like I’m forcing anything; everything just comes naturally to me.
What’s the music scene like where you live?
So I live in the DMV (the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia area) of the United States, and the music scene is huge here. There are so many talented artists from this area including Chris Brown, Pharrell, Logic, Wale, and many more. This area is heavily influenced by hip-hop & rap from the northern & southern regions of the US and has created its own sound over time.
And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?
I’ve always been big into sports. Like a lot of kids, I used to dream about playing in the NBA until reality kicked in, like it does for most kids in high school, but I’ve always had love for the game. I still play and watch basketball all the time, but I also enjoy American football, tennis, bowling, ping-pong, and more. I’m big on relationships as well, so I love spending time with those I care about most, whether that's just hanging out in the house or spending the day or night out with my favorite people making memories.
