"Sweet Remedy," the most recent single from the gifted American-Ukrainian singer-songwriter Kailaya, signifies her return. With her powerful vocals and jazz-infused guitar, Kailaya adds her own soulful, retro R&B taste. As the product of her creative experimentation with new sounds and her desire to forge a stronger bond with her audience, she is thrilled to share this new record with her fans.
We sat down with Kailaya to discuss her music and much more. Here is what she had to say:
Hey Kailaya, welcome to FLEX! How are you?
I am currently wide awake at 12:02 am because 'Sweet Remedy' came out at midnight. I can’t believe it is finally out.
Congratulations on your brand-new song 'Sweet Remedy' - what inspired this particular track?
It is based on a real-life encounter that occurred on my last day in Chicago at a bar named Remedy.
And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?
I definitely have to be inspired by an event, person, idea, and/or story. Anytime I force myself to write, it is never as smooth of a flow.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was very collaborative. I brought the idea (which was only a verse and pre-chorus at the time) to my producer, guitarist and bassist. We then jammed in my room for a few hours and finished the entire song. Getting in the studio was so exciting because my producer and co-writer, Aubren Elaine, already had so many ideas on the direction of the song. When we put together our brains and visions, it flowed very nicely.
For viewers who don't know Kailaya, how would you describe your sound?
I would say it is very story-driven writing with an alternative RnB soul sound. I am not tied to a description though so if you have a better one, let me know :)
And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?
I am also a dancer, mainly heels and pole dancing. I am also acting and doing some voice-over work. For work, I coach youth club volleyball as well.
