Interview - Michy Tree

Berkshire based singer-songwriter Michy Tree released her brand-new six-track extended-play, Purgatory, on October 28, 2022. The EP has an emo, rock, and alternative-rock feel to it featuring a range of tracks the songstress has created over the years.

We sat down with Michy Tree to discuss his music and much more. Here is what she had to say:

Hey Michy Tree, welcome to FLEX! How are you?

I'm good, thank you!

Congratulations on your brand-new extended-play, Purgatory - what inspired this particular project?

Well I had these songs in the making for a while now and decided it was about time to release them as a collection.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this EP?

All these songs were written at different stages of my life but were never finished, for example I started writing Medusa when I was 16.

And do you have to be in a certain mood to write? I think I do, yes, there will be times I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with an idea or melody and I’ll have to write it down. But I’ll definitely set time aside to write and record music.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was so much fun, especially the days when I was in the studio with my band. They’re so insanely talented and I’m so grateful to play and make music with such lovely humans.

For viewers that don’t know Michy Tree, how would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as eclectic emo.

And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?

I’m usually at work, or with my dog but my life pretty much revolves around music.
