INTERVIEW: The LX

If you're a rising artist looking for a producer in your corner, no one is better than THE LX. After beginning his career 15 years ago as a producer and songwriter, garnering production credits for artists like 24hrs, Chinx, Phoebe Ryan, Mickey Shiloh and more, has now turned into The LX turning the tables and starting his own journey as an artist.

His debut single is the punchy & powerful "LOOSE", a track that The LX describes as a "warm-up... I'm just getting loose, I'm just warming up. The best is always what's next to come.” We caught up with The LX to learn more about his start in music and more about his debut single.

Please talk us through the meaning of your powerful new single ‘Loose'.

Thanks for reaching out about my latest single, I really appreciate the support! “Loose” is a motivational song, somewhat of an anthem. It was the last song we recorded for the project. I wanted to send a message. The message is that although I’ve been been working behind the scenes for 15 years, I still feel like I’m just warming up - like this is just the beginning. I hope that it motivates others to keep going at whatever they are passionate about!

What is it about 'Loose' that made you want to make it your debut single?

I chose “Loose” as the single because it showcases a blend of genres. I’m proud that I have been able to walk the line as a producer of hip hop, R&B, and pop, and wanted to be sure to musically make a statement that we can incorporate different genres into one piece. “Loose” is for all those who may have felt left out..just keeps going, the best is yet to come. I’m just getting LOOSE!!

Do you have to be in a certain mood to write?

I view my writing as an athlete in training. I work on it everyday. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. I will admit that some songs come out better when I’m in a particular mood, but I try to avoid that from defining my output.

Where do you live? What’s the music scene like?

I live in Northern New Jersey. We’ve had some legends come from out of here: Lauren Hill, Joe, Fetty Wap! We have a big DJ culture out here and Jersey Club is at the forefront. Jersey felt united for a short period of time (2014 - 2016). It seemed like everyone was interested in working together an building the music scene to become one of the leading music hubs in the country. Unfortunately, I don’t see or feel much of that these days. But, I hope to help bring that energy back through more collaborations with incredibly talented Jersey artists.

Which 3 items would you take on a desert island?

I’ll have to take my equipment (I’m grouping that all in one lol), photos of my two boys, and a good bourbon. I’m a simple guy, I don’t need too much!

What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?

Patience. Patience is the most difficult part for me. Knowing what opportunities are ripe for the picking, and what opportunities should be left alone. I have faith that if I stay the course, everything will work out according to Plan. Might not be when/how I expect, but things will work out.

What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry? I love technology and how it’s brought us all closer. Having the ability to work with anyone across the world at any time is truly amazing. I think that will ultimately enhance the quality of music as there are no limitations. Let’s stretch it as far as we can!!

What are your next plans?

I’m currently working on my first Good Company collection, a collaborative project featuring some amazing artists I’ve worked closely with throughout the years. It’s been in the making for sometime, but this is just the warmup for so much to come...I’m just getting LOOSE!!
