Lana Karlay lets concern boil over on the charged ‘Think It Through’

Watching somebody remain in a damaging relationship can create its own kind of helplessness. The warning signs seem obvious from the outside, every compromise looks increasingly painful, and yet nothing said appears strong enough to pull them away. And on her new anthem ‘Think It Through’, rising Australian artist Lana Karlay captures the moment patience finally gives way to confrontation.
The track is driven by a complicated emotional position. The artist wants the person at its centre to recognise that they deserve more, but her concern is not entirely detached. She is aware that she has become more invested than she intended, giving the song an uneasy mixture of protectiveness, frustration and unspoken desire.
Written during her final year of high school on a seventeen-day trip to Los Angeles, ‘Think It Through’ carries the immediacy of a song captured before its emotions had time to settle. Working with Australian production duo Mason and Julez, she reportedly completed the track during one unusually productive session, and that speed can be felt in its directness.
Driving guitars and polished pop production give the song the urgency of an argument rehearsed repeatedly before finally being spoken aloud. As it plays, the music allows its irritation to become physical, creating the sort of release that belongs at full volume through a car stereo.
Comparisons to Olivia Rodrigo, Paramore, Avril Lavigne and Demi Lovato are understandable in the balance between accessible hooks and guitar-led intensity. But she is also beginning to establish her own perspective through the specificity of her writing. Her songs explore the confusion of caring deeply while still learning how to protect one’s own emotional boundaries.
The single also arrives during a prolific stretch for the young Melbourne-based songwriter, who has continued releasing music while completing school and developing a wider body of work in Los Angeles.
Lana Karlay may still be refining the boundaries of her sound, but this release shows she already understands how to make emotional conflict feel direct, energetic and entirely her own.
