Michellar gives obsession a psychedelic shape on ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Mind’

Obsession rarely follows a clear line. It repeats, distorts perspective and returns at inconvenient moments, turning private thoughts into a closed emotional circuit. And on her new single ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Mind’, San Francisco artist Michellar gives that experience a suitably unsettled musical setting, drawing upon classic psychedelia to explore attraction, compulsion and everything that remains unsaid.

Written by Michelle Bond and produced by Nashville-based Michael Beckheart, the single emerged from thoughts that had been kept internal for too long. But rather than presenting desire as uncomplicated romance, Michellar focuses on its less manageable qualities: the way curiosity can become fixation and how imagined possibilities can continue expanding without resolution.

Influences including Pink Floyd, The Doors and Led Zeppelin provide a broad foundation, but the track’s appeal lies in the way those references support its psychological atmosphere. Psychedelia becomes a means of expressing mental repetition, sensuality and the loss of emotional control.

‘Can’t Get You Out of My Mind’ also marks the beginning of a larger project, with a full psychedelic album planned for spring 2027. As an opening indication of that direction, the single suggests Michellar is moving towards music that allows greater room for ambiguity and atmosphere.
