5 Songs I Like w/ Bones Ate Arfa

Following the release of their latest single "Shedtrak" (featuring Dread FM), we caught up with punk band Bones Ate Arfa to find out what influences their eclectic sound.

1. November has come - Gorillaz

"While recording Shedtrak lead singer Arfa and featuring artist Dread FM listened to this song a lot. The odd production elements and boom bap influence gave them a concrete idea of what we wanted for the hip hop side of Shedtrak."

2. Whisper - Ty Segall

"Arfa got very much into Ty Segall’s 2021 album Harmonizer while writing Shedtrak. The giant fuzz tones mixed with the electronic and synthetic textures helped build the unique sound of Shedtrak in its early stages."

3. Smooth Sailing - Queens of the Stone Age

"Bones Ate Arfa as a band are hugely influenced by Queens of the Stone Age. Bones’ midrange heavy guitars and Arfa’s fry screaming that is very reminiscent of ex Queens Bassist Nick Oliveri. But the drunken sway of Smooth Sailing grooves similarly to the beat in Shedtrak, and the layered cascade of guitars hits in the same way."

4. Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz

Arfa says “I’m not gonna lie mine and Dread’s infatuation with the early Gorillaz music is probably one of the main reasons we came together to make Shedtrak. Since I was little I just always wanted to make music like Damon Albarn and collaborate with artists to mash up different styles and make something new.”

5. Gorilla - Little Simz

"Last but not least. The obvious choice. I love everything that Simz releases but this song is so good and everything about it just hits so hard. It’s one of those songs that makes you pull a face in disgust, but in a good way. That’s something we really wanted to encapsulate in Shedtrak, and I hope people can say they pull that face when we play it.” - Arfa
