3 Days Of Wonder are a young band making a big impact with their punchy yet emotionally sincere and impressively mature sound. The new single 'Anyone Who knows' showcases the bands feel for dynaics with explosive distorted guitar tones and moments of emotive calm whic allow the melodies to shines. It's a radiant example of the bands potential which left use eager to learn more... We caught up with the band to ask about 5 of their favourite songs:
Big Country - Look Away
My parents had a pretty big vinyl collection and a record player, when most of my mates didn’t know what one was! I used to pull records out and listen when my parents were at work. I remember pulling out Big Country’s first 3 albums. I’d never heard songs like them, certainly not on Radio 1 and I feel that there is so much influence here. The driving drums, the riffs, the way these play against the vocals and the lift into chorus. I found their music so up lifting and full of hope. Music to make your day better.
U2 - In God’s Country
Weirdly, I discovered this lot much later. The U2 albums were in CD stack and I never really touched that, being strangely fascinated by spinning vinyl. But, someone in an earlier band line up was a U2 nut and told me I had to listen to Joshua Tree, so I dug it out and did and I listened to it on rotation for about 3 months. What an album, I could have picked 5 or 6 songs but ended up going for "In God’s Country". I adore the way every instrument plays it part and is therefore vital in building the song, with much of U2……the lyric, has real meaning, story telling in a song and I really value that. I believe that songs should really be saying something. The way that the break downs and take off points create drama in the song is something that I try hard to capture in my music.
Foo Fighters - The Pretender
I got into Foo Fighters by looking out for great performers who sang and played guitar, Grohl was definitely one of those. He performs with absolute power, emotion and belief. This band has contributed most to our rock energy that is present in our songs. The guitar arpeggios sitting against the low key vocal, then taking off, driven by big guitar power chords and riffs are something I really admire.
The Police - Synchronisity
Another from the vinyl collection. My parents had all the albums. So, I came across this lot pretty early on. I love the way the drums take charge, just driving the song, massive snare - love Copland. The Police always find space in the songs, letting them breathe. They are not afraid of that space and I really admire that. There are multiple hooks in the song, which th band try to deliver in our music and the eighties synths, love that. We use synths a lot to provide a bed upon which the rock can sit.
Kings of Leon - Notion
I really got into their later stuff, after the first 3 albums, when they were becoming more stadium rock band and less swamp music Skynard in style. With this band, again, I love the fact that every member is essential. In this song the riff led themes with the vocals working against them, massive hooks in the vocals and big power lifts through the song is something that is a huge influence. I also love the distinctive vocal sound. When Caleb opens his mouth, you immediately know it’s him. That’s something I’m really conscious of producing in my own style as an overlay for our music.
