We sat down with AURA after the release of their stellar new tune 'Small Drops', to discuss what influences shaped their unique sound. Be sure to check out the single at the bottom and follow them on socials!
Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles
Here Comes The Sun is so wonderful to play and sing. Barre clamp on band 7 and you get that wonderful ringing sound and so much fun to sing. When I applied and got into the Academy of Music, it was this song I sang for "mamma Uggla" (Magnus' mother) who was on the jury. It went well.
Echoes - Pink Floyd
Epic 'Echoes' from Meddle is 20 minutes long and put me in an almost hypnotic and meditative state the first time I heard the song. It has always been a guiding light for me and I like it more than the much more famous "Shine On...". Especially the space sounds that come back after the fuzzy middle section. So incredibly good. I read that Pink Floyd had some kind of metronome to keep the beat better than Atom Heart Mother which sways precariously at times.
The Carpet Crawler - Genesis
The Carpet Crawler with Genesis is so great. I had barely heard the album "THE LAMB..." when we saw Genesis, with Peter Gabriel, February 21 in Copenhagen. My cousin Bosse had the tickets, which he had forgotten, but we got in anyway because he remembered what the numbers were and the seats were empty. So to the tune of THE LAMB... we slipped into the fog and sat down. Carpet Crawlers is song no. 10 on the album, so after about 35 minutes they played it. Phil Collins' incredible drumming and Peter's wonderful voice. Wow. It's not often you get to hear an entire album like this without a single interruption, but after about 1 ½ hours the ovations broke out. Magically.
Close To The Edge - Yes
My second concert with Yes was at Cirkus in Stockholm in 2001. YES lacked a keyboard player but brought a symphony orchestra instead and played all their best songs including The Gates Of Delerium from Relayer and the absolutely incredible 'Close To The Edge'. Someone in the audience screamed orgasm when Jon Andersson presented the song and that was it. And of course I´ve heard the song many times but never like this.
The House Of The Rising Sun - The Animals
Okey… maybe I should take a more common song as number 5. I remember when I was very young and heard 'The House Of The Rising Sun' by The Animals for the first time and was completely taken. So I want to be able to play and sing, and I could, but it took a while. When I then saw The Animals (without Eric Burdon) in Gothenburg at Sticky Fingers and also got to talk to them afterwards, my luck was made. 15 years later, AURA stands on the same stage and plays. Awesome.
