5 Songs I Love w/ Denis Granan

Following the release of his latest single 'The Man Who Killed a Star', Flex caught up with Spanish Indie-Pop artist Denis Granan to find out more about what influences his sound. Known for his intricate melodies and emotionally resonant compositions, Granan's latest release is a bold exploration of the challenges we face in our pursuit of success and fulfilment.

If you enjoy Granan's picks be sure to check out 'The Man Who Killed a Star' at the end of the article.

1. Hearing Damage - Thom Yorke

I love how your appreciation for rhythm changes before and after the drums start, for me this song it’s pure stimulation, both the instrumental and the vocal melodies, it’s brilliant and it sounds so good on a proper system!

2. Low - Chet Faker

Simple but powerful, specially these live sessions that Chet did, I love them. He is a great musician but more importantly, you can feel that he feels it, it’s like a mix of Ray Charles with modern electronics and Hip Hop.

3. Bunny is a Rabbit - Caroline Polachek

I love the bass line, groovy, funky one, I can hear it on repeat and want to play it but also the lyrics, they become like a loop in your head, I love that they don’t make completely sense, they are kind of random but at the same time they are not, they are open to interpretation, I love that because I struggle a lot writing lyrics, trying to find a classic way of writing and this is not, and that’s liberating.

4. Sights - London Grammar

Powerful voice, interesting piano, dreamy guitars. It’s a trip for the ears, I love all the songs from this Album (If You Wait).

5. Neon (Live in LA) - John Mayer

I don’t know how many times I have heard the good evening, specially in my first car, a white Seat Ibiza. Probably thousands. This song is weird, it’s extremely hard to play (specially singing it), complex yet musical. For me the aspiration for the guitarist in me.
