5 Songs I Love w/ Falky

Following the release of their latest single 'You Time', we caught up with Noah and Rufus from Indie-Pop duo Falky to find out more about what influences their eclectic sound. If you enjoy any of their picks be sure to check out 'You Time' at the end of the article.

1. Disco Man - Remi Wolf (Noah)

"Right now, the thing I need to level up at music-wise is performing. Whether it’s live or my performance on a studio track I know I need to feel the music more and put on a more exciting performance. Remi Wolf consistently, song after song, finds a way to capture pure fun in her music. Disco Man was the first Remi song I found myself getting down to no matter the occasion. Stressful day? Don’t care if Disco Man is on… There’s a hurricane going on outside? So what… Disco Man is playing I’m gonna dance. I want to make music that can, even momentarily, take someone’s stress away."

2. Fair-Weather Friend - Bruno Major (Noah)

"Back when I worked a high school summer job at Ben & Jerry's, I had a friend/coworker who’d bring his guitar in every once in a while. He’d play when we had downtime and even though I had just begun my own music taste discovery journey, he introduced me to Bruno Major’s music. To this day he’s one of my favorite songwriters and Fair-Weather Friend is still one of my favorite songs. It’s by no means the most emotional song I’ve ever heard but the way Bruno is able to pour so much energy into one song is amazing to me. Even when I had just heard it for the first time, it transported me to a comforting yet melancholic place, and not many other songs have been able to do that to me on first listen."

3. Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes - Paul Simon (Rufus)

"Paul Simon is a favorite of my mom’s, so I heard Graceland a lot growing up, and this is a track that’s like foundational to the way I understand music. If you really listen to it it’ll teach you everything important—how to make space for your fellow musicians, how to pop out when it’s right, how to feel a proper deep pocket, how to play like it matters, how to play like it doesn’t matter, everything."

4. Molly - OSTON (Rufus)

"Right now, this song’s my North Star as a producer. It respects you as a listener but it doesn’t sacrifice any of the moments that you just go crazy in the room as you’re making something. That’s what I wanna do. If you look a little deeper too, OSTON has some videos on YouTube that show her process, and I really related to how she, her co-writers, and her producer Drew Polovick make this music. If y’all are reading this, I’m a fan."

5. Good 4 U - Olivia Rodrigo (Both)

"Now this song is just a banger. It’s the first song we covered live and whenever we go into the studio intending to make an upbeat pop-punk banger, we try to channel that energy. Rufus would tell you that seeing a crowd headbang to your performance is insanely gratifying and I don’t think there’s been a single time this song hasn’t made a crowd do just that. Everything about Good 4 U is catchy, to the point, and it sounds great through and through. All things we want to emulate in our own music."
