Following the release of her debut single 'The Hunter', Flex caught up with comedian and YouTuber Jaime French to discover what influences her dark-pop sound. If you enjoy Jamie's picks, be sure to check out 'The Hunter' at the end of the article.
1. “Talk to Me” by Stevie Nicks
This song just puts me in a good mood. The instrumentation really does it for me, and Stevie’s vocal is always incredible.
2. “Woman” by Mumford & Sons
I don’t know what kind of magic they put into this song but I always get full-body chills when the beat drops in the beginning. Love the lyrics too. Listen in the car and thank me later.
3. “Send My Love to Your New Lover” by Adele
This song is just genius on so many levels. We’ve all felt the lyrics at some point in our lives. I like how the lyrics could be interpreted as somewhat sad, but the upbeat feel of the song contrasts that. The chorus always hits, it’s a great breakup anthem.
4. “Love Bites” by Deff Leopard
What can I even say? The pure 80’s sound, the beautiful guitar tone…this song is a baby-maker.
5. “Dog Days are Over” by Florence + The Machine
I love how this song just exudes pure happiness. The Celtic feel makes it unique and powerful. This is one where you have no choice but to dance around your kitchen like a giddy school girl. If you don’t feel those drums, there’s something wrong with you.
