Beck - Lost Cause
I can remember being a teenager listening to this song walking around Dublin, and just feeling in a bubble and felt like it was okay to not know what was happening, or going on, or what was coming next, and that it was okay to be lost. Becks « sea change » album was such a niche album for me and my brothers a nice escape to a different world.
Andy Shauf - The Magician
Recently this track has been for me an imaginative galore. Really inspiring stuff coming from this artist beautiful layers of acoustic soundscape, Sweet but yet subtle. Andy Shauf is one of those timidly overwhelming artists with melody and lyrics delivered with rare originality, his tenderness has had a lot of inspiration on what I’m trying to do it’s helped me understand how less can me more.
Gang Of Four - Damaged Goods
This one was an introduction for me to dissonant, original punk, funk rock as young adult it was a revelation ! Bit of a mix of poetry and contrast in your face brutal Guitar, still sounds like it just came out of the box.
Nino Ferrer - La Rua Madureira
Nino was kind of the misunderstood French artist, he was known for some comical songs he wrote, but this one was a pretty serious endeavor, his way of singing has so much soul to it, I discovered this artist after ten years of living in France and felt lucky to discover this underrated masterpiece.
Betty David - They Say I'm Different
Latest discovery for me, the forgotten Queen of soul « Betty Davis » her incredible powerhouse voice scream out free our hearts, a sheer inspiration of flamboyancy inspired the likes of Hendrix and Bowie, Her lyrics and attitude were about woman’s rights sexual liberation, black power, Ahead of her time completely a landmark artist in so many forms.
