Illapu - Vuelvo
This was a hard one. There are just too many artists who deserve a spot in this ridiculously short top-5! In this case, it was a very close call between Victor Jara, a renowned singer songwriter who has been a very great influence on my music and especially this song by Illapu called Vuelvo. This particular song has been the song track of my life growing up. It translates beautifully our longing of being so far away from our home in Chile. Vuelvo amor Vuelvo, a vivir en mi pais!
Mercedes Sosa - Gracias a la Vida
A song written by the Chilean author Violeta Parra interpreted by the one and only Mercedes Sosa. This song was always present in our house. A song about being grateful of life wherever it brings us. A home far away from home. Gracias a la Vida.
Wu-Tang - Method Man
HipHop in general was a big part of my adolescence growing up in the South East part of Amsterdam. I could name many hiphop and rap artists, but the Wu always made me vibe. The raw beats of The Rza, the vocals of all them cats, the whole mystical thing around them. Wu-Tang!
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Three Little Birds
Of course Bob Marley. If at any moment I feel down, it does not matter how bad I feel.. if I hear Bob Marley, any song really, he picks me up. On top of that, this song is an anthem of my beloved Ajax, Amsterdam football club.
Manu Chao & Radio Bemba Soundsystem - Machine Gun
Manu Chao and his band have to be on my all time favourite music list for sure! His honest music, his ongoing and consistent activism, his way of living is a major example for me. Add to that their CRAZY intense energy during their live shows…
