What Is It About Men - Amy Winehouse
The first time I heard this song, my job was on the floor, I have never heard anyone write in such a straightforward way. She wasn’t using crazy metaphors she was just saying it out straight and I didn’t realise someone would be so honest until I heard this song
Don’t Wanna Fight - Alabama Shakes
The intro of this song shocked me and made me think outside the box. You can start a song with an abrupt melody or hook. You absolutely don’t have to ease into it with a classic ‘ intro section’
Fallin - Alicia Keyes
The chokehold this song had on me in my late teens and early 20s should be studied. I think it’s the first time I ever heard someone sing in the same style that I sang in. Yes, there was so many big powerful voices that I listened to at the same time( Whitney Houston Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera) but none of them were Singing with the same emotion as Alicia did, particularly in this song.
Still into you - Paramore
This is a song that I replay whenever I’m in a bad mood( which is a lot lol ) it’s guaranteed to get me out of whatever funk im in, even if just for five minutes. There is something about her vocal delivery that is so mesmerising and hypnotic to me.
One for the Radio - McFly
Funnily enough, the only song from man, well multiple men. McFly in general were a massive influence to me growing up. This song in particular. They talk about how people pretend to not like certain music but sing along to it on the radio, anyways. It’s a song about embracing your ‘ guilty pleasures’ now that’s not to say I think McFly is a guilty pleasure, it’s all pleasure baby no guilt here
