5 Songs I Love w/ mokroïé
Following the release of his latest 4-track EP 'Unanswered', Flex caught up with multidisciplinary electronic artist mokroïé to find out what influences his immersive electronic sound. If you enjoy mokroïé's picks, be sure to check out 'Unanswered' at the end of the article.
1. Massive Attack – Paradise Circus
I love Massive Attack in their pure darkness, but also when they choose delicacy—like with this track which might seem weak at first, but reveals itself to be a masterpiece with every listen.
2. Moderat – Running
I like many genres of music and moods, but when it comes to the tracks that leave the deepest mark on me, they are often the most emotionally intense—the ones that resonate within you for reasons you can't quite pinpoint.
3. Depeche Mode – Freestate
Even though this track was made without the brilliant Alan Wilder, who had just left Depeche Mode—and noting that the remaining members called upon numerous contributors to handle production—this composition displays a certain humility that suffices to convey powerful emotions through Dave Gahan, back from hell after his overdose.
4. The Cure – Plainsong
The entire album Disintegration, from which this track is taken, is a masterpiece—though I sometimes find it hard to listen to because it moves me so deeply. I’ve chosen the opening track here, which carries a brighter, more comforting spirit than most of the other songs. I really enjoy what The Cure is doing today: Robert Smith still allows himself to play 8-minute-plus tracks live, some with intros lasting over half the song. Going completely against the grain of social media trends.
5. Bjork – jóga
The album Homogenic is a masterpiece; I chose "Jóga", which represents the record beautifully. The production work by the late Mark Bell (LFO) is a masterclass.
