Following the release of his latest EP 'A Map of the Human', Flex caught up with Italian producer Moonbrew to discover what influences his unique sound, blending electronica, hip-hop, and jazz. If you enjoy Moonbrew's picks, be sure to check out 'A Map of the Human' at the end of the article.

1. DJ Shadow – Midnight in a Perfect World

What has inspired me the most about DJ Shadow is his sonic exploration — the highly creative and unconventional use of samples that pushed instrumental hip-hop into new, innovative directions.

2. Nujabes feat. Uyama Hiroto – Gone are the Days

I’ve been a longtime fan of Nujabes. I’ve always admired his productions and the way he blended jazz elements into his beats. What inspired me most are the dreamy atmospheres that characterize his tracks.

3. Yussef Dayes – Black Classical Music

The fusion between electronic music and jazz is a key part of my sound. Yussef Dayes is one of those modern artists who, in my opinion, embodies the spirit of the jazz from the ’60s and ’70s, when pure expressive freedom was the driving creative force. That spirit inspired me in the making of the EP.

4. Ryuichi Sakamoto – The Last Emperor (Theme)

The world of film soundtracks has a strong influence on my music. I believe any instrumental track should tell a story through the choice of sounds and notes. The melodies and atmospheres created by Sakamoto have been a major inspiration.

5. Flying Lotus – Do the Astral Plane

What I deeply admire about Flying Lotus is his ability to tastefully blend distant sonic elements to create new musical landscapes. His artistic exploration and creative freedom have been a great source of inspiration.
