5 Songs I Love w/ Okayracer

Alice Smith

Following the release of his latest single "Okayraver" we caught up with American prodigy Okayracer to find out what influences his eclectic sound.

1. Love Can Be… by Vince Staples

"This song Made me really wanna learn how to make music I’ve been obsessed with all the elements in the track and the way it fills all space with different elements while still leaving enough of a template for Vince to share his story."

2. Die Young by Kesha

"I have a strong belief that Kesha created underground rap and it’s because of this track. That synth lead at the drop is absolutely insane. This song could play at a gas station and the cars would probably turn up."

3. Idioteque by Radiohead

"Idioteque is by far my favorite radiohead song. This song feels like a Robot learning to become human. Fitting that they even sampled a computer startup sound to accomplish this. I’ve modeled a lot of my sound off of this track."

4. Antidote by Travis Scott

"I was super sheltered as a kid so my first exposure to rap music was Kendrick Lamar and This Travis Scott song. This was actually the first explicit song I ever listened to lol. I’ve always been in love with the way Travis Scott processes his vocals and the way they translate from live performances to Home listening experience. Especially this song."

5. Diamonds by Polar Yung Crawf

(Not available on streaming platforms anymore)

"I started making better music because of this song. It might not even still be up on anything but I swear I would’ve never made anything different if I didn’t hear this song."
