Following the release of their latest single 'House Of Cards', Flex caught up with married country duo Outpost Drive to find out more about what influences their transatlantic sound. If you enjoy Outpost Drive's picks, be sure to check out 'House Of Cards' at the end of the article.
1. 28 by Zach Bryan:
Zach Bryan is a modern genius. His lyrics have this rare ability to stir up a deep, nostalgic emotion, and we’ve been hugely inspired by his songwriting, production, and overall vibe. He’s played a big role in shaping the sound of Outpost Drive. In fact, Zach Bryan was one of the key gateway artists who first drew Willow into an appreciation of Mary Bragg’s southern influences.
2. U Should Not Be Doing That by Amyl and The Sniffers
The attitude of Amy Taylor is so refreshing. She keeps it real like no other and her intensity is so infectious. Mary Bragg and I are both big fans.
3. Moonshiner by Bob Dylan
Moonshiner is this incredible folk song that feels touched by the divine. It’s dense with heartache and yearning. It’s maybe our favourite Bob Dylan recording and one that not many know. He’s so prolific that it's easy for masterpieces to fall through the cracks.
4. Civil War by Guns N Roses
This song is a true masterpiece in our eyes. From the raw lyrics to the epic production, we both remember the first time we heard this song & it has been cemented in both of our brains since we were kids. Civil War is a nearly 8 minute long song & takes you on a massive journey. It almost feels like time stops & THAT is great art.
5. I’m Still Fine by The Red Clay Strays
The Red Clay Strays are from Mary Bragg’s hometown, Mobile, Alabama, and I think we’ve both been so inspired by watching their success grow over the years. They are truly incredible musicians & creating music that makes you grateful to be alive in 2025 to see it. Picking one song is difficult as they have a stacked discography full of timeless songs, but “I’m Still Fine” is our current favorite. It would be a novel of an answer for us to break down how much the lyrics resonate with us as artists and individuals. Such a powerful track.
