We sat down with 16-year-old Sarah Casey upon the release of her new single 'Blind Eye' to learn more about her unique sound. Be sure to check out the new track at the bottom and follow her along her journey!

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac has always stood out to me. I love how deeply personal and timeless it is. It reflects on the challenges that come with change and growing older, which is very meaningful and relevant to me as I navigate my teenage years. It’s such a simple song, with just Stevie Nicks’ vocals and an acoustic guitar, which I absolutely love. The track has influenced me by showing that the strongest songs can be so sincere and emotionally driven.

Black Friday - Tom Odell

Black Friday (the Mahogany Sessions version) by Tom Odell has had a major influence on me. The raw, emotional, and intimate feel of the performance really speaks to me. The stripped-back version places all the focus on the emotion on the vocals and the honesty of the lyrics. Tom Odell puts so much feeling into his voice. You can really tell he means every word he sings. This song has inspired me to focus on emotion and honesty in music rather than trying to make something overly complicated.

Lonely Island - Amble

Lonely Island is a track that will always have a special place in my heart. The song is centred around Achill Island, and longing for a person or a time that is no longer there, which resonates with my family. This song reminds me of so many childhood memories in my grandparents house on the shore of the island. Whenever I miss that place, I play this song. The melancholy tone brings me right back and it feels like home.

Valerie - Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse’s version of Valerie is another one that stands out to me, particularly her live performances of the song. I really admire all of her work, but Valerie is definitely one of my favourites. I just love how the lyrics effortlessly roll off her tongue. Listening to this song reminds me that preforming isn’t about having every note perfect, it’s about putting life and personality into a song.

A Rainy Night In Soho - The Pogues

A Rainy Night In Soho by The Pogues is a special song for me. This song has made me think more about how a song feels rather than how perfect it sounds. The vocals are really raw and emotional, and it shows you don’t need everything to be super polished for it to be a good song. It’s inspired me to write more honest, vulnerable music, even if it’s a bit messy, because that’s what actually sticks with people.
