We sat down with the incredible Sarah Keane on the release of her new single 'One For The Team', which is out now. We learn more about the influences behind her sound, and there are some really interesting choices! Be sure to check out the song at the bottom and follow Sarah along her journey.

Slow Burn - Kacey Musgraves

First off, Kacey is a lyrical genius, so this could have been replaced with a few more of her songs! It’s rare that I listen to her and I’m not struck by how clever her writing is. This song in particular though resonates with me a lot because I’m an incredibly impatient person who finds it hard to sit still. There’s something about the writing, delivery and arrangement of this song that actually makes me want to physically slow down so I think that’s a particularly impressive feat. I always come back to it when I need the reminder.

Anything but Ordinary - Avril Lavigne

Since she was the soundtrack to my childhood, it would be remiss of me not to mention something from Avril Lavigne. Choosing a favourite is tricky, but as someone who has always felt a bit “weird” this song certainly resonates with me.

Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right - Bob Dylan

I must have been mid-heartbreak when I heard this song for the first time because I remember it absolutely broke me. The casual tone amongst the soul-destroying lyrics combined with the laid back production kills me every time. I love simple, excellent songwriting and this is one of the best examples I know of this.

You’re Welcome - Moana

I love a good musical! If I didn’t include Moana, then Hamilton or Encanto would most likely get a mention - thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda turning out bop after bop! However this song is perpetually in my head…I’m not exaggerating when I say I sing it to myself most days. It’s fun, upbeat and a total banger - what more could you want?

King  - Florence and the Machine

This is one of those songs that stopped me in my tracks. Production wise it’s phenomenal, with the song itself feeling like a mini-opera with an unusual but incredibly strong structure and building throughout, combined with a very strong melody. However, the theme here I believe will resonate with every woman, as she questions her role in her own life and what it means to be a woman in this day and age. A very relatable song and definitely one of those I wish I wrote!
