Following the release of their latest single 'Hater', Flex caught up with North London Punk band  Toxic Barbecue to find out what influences their chaotic glitter-punk sound. If you enjoy the band's picks, be sure to check out 'Hater' at the end of the article.

1. Vinne-Headless Talking Torsos {Megan's Pick}

Fun, stupid and undeniably groovy. From an early age it was common to live within a house full of music; from my dad and brother performing renditions of Pat Metheny to my mum smashing out genre hopping playlists from Spotify, it was never quiet but enriching. Naturally, this delicious jazz-rock fusion really wet my appetite with the bass delivering a stand out performance which demands you dig into the beat. Accompanied by the theatrical vocal style it's humorous but also musically excellent.

2. She’s Dead (The Sky’s Gone out ft. Mortiis) {Lucille's Pick}

Such a groovy noir synth laden gothic masterpiece. I put this on during my travel home from shows late at night and imagine this song whispering through the trees during my funeral, after being found dead and bloodied in an abandoned hotel room. The exquisite pain and thrill of imagining everybody weeping over my corpse, vampyric in its bloodless state, beauty still emanating through the deathly pallor, as a 90’s film montage starts where my wife becomes an avenging detective and huts my killers down to the ends of the earth.

3. Defunkt- Defunkt {Marco's Pick}

The inventive and impeccable groove of this incredibly infectious track excites and tickles my soul, transcending me to a higher consciousness, feeling as if groove is the secret to the universe and can unlock many of its mysteries.

4. Ars Moriendi- Mr Bungle {Anita's Pick)

This song is a rollercoaster- it twists, explodes, cools down and then throws you off again. Folk, metal, chaos and strange surprises all mixed into one track. Somehow, it balances everything so well that it matches the chaos in my head and calms it at the same time. I don’t know how it works but it just clicks with me. Intense, weird and somehow soothing.

5. Flip Flop Fliep Flap (Pilfinger Dance Song)- Sigurd Barrett {Cam's Pick}

This song is a masterpiece in my opinion. It’s a perfect example of high-class songwriting. It’s catchy the whole way through, it makes me wanna cry in the bridge, to then make me wanna sing and dance in the chorus. An exquisite ride. Although the lyrics are in Danish, I feel I know exactly what Sigurd is trying to say.

It’s an all time classic.
