Following the release of his 10-track debut album 'a human experience', Flex caught up with Vienna-based singer-songwriter Lost Individual to discover what influences his folk-pop sound. If you enjoy Lost Individual's picks, be sure to check out 'a human experience' at the end of the article.
1. Beach Baby by Bon Iver
This song has helped me through some tough times, i even got the title tattooed on my back of my left hand - it is my favorite song of all time, so simple yet so strong - this was and still is a big influence for my songwriting the part that hits the hardest for me is the guitar solo at the end, there’s just something about it that makes me feel something i cannot describe
2. If i get high by Nothing but Thieves
Conor mason is one of my favorite singers out there, his soft, yet powerfull vocals always catch me - in combination with this - again - simple songwriting - u can just feel they also knew „yeah, that’s good, this song doesn’t need anything else“ - absolutely love these kinds of songs i especially love these long high notes where he just powers through them as if they were the easiest thing to sing - he really makes it look easy
3. When You’re Gone by Jon and Roy
This band has also been a very big influence in my songwriting journey, especially this song, it is one of those i would listen to on repeat for weeks, like beach baby by bon iver, so simple yet it makes me feel so much, i love that the simple 3 chord guitar on repeat with simple percussion and a strong voice, that’s what i love about this song
4. My Kind of Woman by Mac DeMarco
This song is such a vibe - sounds so simple with such a chill guitar sound i recently got into playing electric guitar and this opens up a lot of sounds u just don’t have available if u just play acoustic - i want to experiment a lot more with different sounds and still keep it simple, like he does his songs feel like a day off from a stressful week of work
5. Love is All by The Tallest Man on Earth
I am a huge fan of the tallest man on earth, his voice is so real and raw and how he plays the guitar just brings u into another world - he really portraits this imperfection of human nature in his voice in the best way possible - it feels like you’re on a train together and he’s telling you a story - very intimate
