With the release of her latest single "Unforgettable", Flex caught up with rising star Mathilde SPZ to find out more about what influenced her new release. If you enjoy Mathilde SPZ's picks, check out "Unforgettable" at the end of the article.
«Insomnia» - Faithless
This song is just simply put epic! I get goosebumps every time I hear the intro and oh my gosh the release when the beat kicks in!! It’s a masterpiece that has inspired me since I was 7 years old
“Take me out” - Franz Ferdinand
I realised now that I am a sucker for stand out intros on songs! I just love How they start the song off in a high bpm and then slow it down to a raw, simplistic beat. It takes so much confidence to dare to make a beat simply on the beat. This reeks playfulness and attitude- What’s not to like?!
“Frozen” - Madonna
The vibe and emotions in this song makes me want to cry, fly and dance at the same time every time I hear it! Once again I find it so insanely inspiring (and sexy!) when you dare to keep the song so simple and just let the initial ideas play out. And the syncopations and triplets in the drum beat in this one is just YUM!
“You’re not alone” - Olive
Ha ha ha, I am such a sucker for vibey intros! If you haven’t heard this one- You’re in for a treat! The way they introduce the chorus with only vocals and the off beat synth-theme before the beat kicks in is majestic!
“Silhouettes” - Avicii
Ah, Avicii <3 Such a groundbreaker within EDM with his synth patterns and this one I think is his most brilliant synth idea. The stomach flip when he drops the beat in the middle of the drop and just lets the synth go solo on a cross rhythm is when I lose my mind! And paired with the amazing soft vocals of Salem Al-Fakir it’s (to me) one of the top Avicii (actually EDM) songs ever.
