Montello have just stamped their claim as one to watch with the release of the exciting new single 'Suit & Tie'. The track shocases a vibrant blend of 90s aesthetics with fresh faced, youthful energy. With a series of big festival slots on the horizon, the band are riding a wave of momentum which is seeing them mentioned across major press and national radio.

We wanted to know more about the bands taste, over to Montello to give us 5 of their all time faves:

‘The Night’ - Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

We’ve always been a band that’s conscious of our Wigan roots, and so we wanted to establish a tradition at our gigs of walking out to music that not only resonates with us, but also resonates with our local heritage. We’re all big into our Northern Soul, so what better track to walk out to than a song as suspenseful as this? You can’t beat the classics.

‘End of a Century’ - Blur

I love this song because of how self conscious it is, being released in the mid 90s knowing a whole load of change is coming for music, fashion, the works. It more or less explains how I think I’ll feel in my late 20s, but I’ve got about ten years before that yet so I’ll let you know.

‘Loud’- Olivia Dean

This track just really stands out to me. The lyricism and the use of instrumentation to mirror the lyrics is genius. Dean’s use of the recurring theme of volume throughout the whole track, both lyrically and musically, has  really been inspiring me in what I’m writing at the moment.

‘Bad Sneakers’ - Steely Dan

It was way too hard to choose an all time favourite song so I had to just go with what I’ve been listening most to the past couple weeks. It’s just an all round banger with an unbelievably catchy chorus.

‘Do You Remember The First Time’ - Pulp

At the moment for me this is perfection: the haunting build in the verses, the thrash of impact in the chorus, the fantastic guitar riff all tied neatly with a bow in the form of Jarvis Cocker’s eternally great lyrics. Hearing them makes this tunes excellent story so clear along with certifying it as some of the best of Britpop.
