We sat down with Rose Wallace Goldaline on the release of his single 'don't take all this for granted', to chat about what goes into making his unique sound. Be sure to check out the new track at the bottom, and follow him on his journey!

Breathless - Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds

My parents used to play this a lot when I was growing up which is partially why I have so much love for it, but it certainly had a second wind as I got older. It’s one of those songs that somehow feels new with every listen. The lyrics are wonderfully understated, I don’t feel they beg for appreciation, almost to a fault as it might be easy to overlook them. It just seems quite pure overall. The production transports you to some mid summer’s heat stained hazy morning. Such a creative love song.

Bodys - Car Seat Headrest

This is such a fantastically well written song. Lines like ‘Is it the chorus yet? No, it’s just a building of the verse, so when the chorus does come it’ll be more rewarding’ and ‘Don’t you realise our bodies could fall apart at any second’ are great at sort’ve cutting through all the clutter and noise. They remind you to stop waiting for life to happen without coming across as too preachy. I also love how he’s able to distill the human experience down into the simple moments that it’s comprised of. Like ‘those of you who’ve got some nice shoulders I’d like to put my arms around them,’ or ‘these are the people that I get drunk with, these are the people that I fell in love with,’ and even just ‘everybody’s swinging their hips.’ It highlights those small details that make the moments memorable.

Los Angeles - Big Thief

I really think Adrianne Lenker is one of, if not the best lyricists around at the moment and this song is a perfect example of that. There’s just so much beauty injected into every line, tied with her delivery and the production makes for a unique and special song.

Where You’ll Find Me Now - Neutral Milk Hotel

Neutral milk hotel are one of my favourite bands and this is one of my favourites from them. Jeff Mangum has the ability to create worlds using the strangest of language, it always feels as though the words shouldn’t sit well together but they do. I love lines like “out in the dark the world is still rolling” and “your teeth believe that teeth are for tearing, so tear into me”

Gosh - Jamie XX

This song has the unique ability to put life into perspective for me without saying anything. I’m really not sure what it is about it but it always feels as though it grants some breathing room.
