Allan Jamisen chases reinvention down an open road on new single 'Leave It All Behind'

'Leave It All Behind' begins with one of life's most seductive ideas: that somewhere else, everything might finally make sense.
For Phoenix-based artist Allan Jamisen, escape is framed within the fantasy itself, exploring the idea of the open road, the fresh start and the possibility of becoming somebody different, but also in the harder truth that reinvention never completely erases what came before.
He writes from the perspective of someone drawn towards movement, but aware that geography can only change so much. A new city, a different life or another road may offer possibility, yet memory and identity travel with you.
It's a fitting subject for an artist whose own creative history has been defined by movement. His musical path stretches from childhood choir performances in Arizona through Los Angeles club bands, university gospel music, cassette-based home recording and later collaborations in Copenhagen's art and electronic scenes. And that wide breadth gives 'Leave It All Behind' an interesting context.
He's never seemed especially interested in staying within one musical identity, and the song's fascination with escape and reinvention feels connected to that wider restlessness.
But the song's strongest concept is that the horizon doesn't offer complete freedom. You can abandon a place. You can change the scenery. You can even construct an entirely new version of yourself. But what remains more difficult is leaving behind the person who made the journey in the first place.
Throughout, Allan Jamisen captures the romance of starting over without pretending that transformation comes without baggage. Sometimes escape really can change your life, but it just can't remove you from it.
