Alor Ignite With ‘Nuclear’
Alor, ‘nuclear’: a single about not having the answers
I’m drawn to songs that admit they don’t know. ‘nuclear’ is exactly that, a slow, ambient, piano-led track about existential dread and a fear of space that Ollie has never quite shaken.
I like that it doesn’t try to resolve anything. His starting point is how we’re meant to make sense of things when so much beyond us is unanswered, and he’s content to leave the question hanging. He’s also relaxed about how people hear his songs. Listeners have told him what they meant to them, often nothing like why he wrote them, and he’s glad of it.
It’s the first taste of ‘61/350’, a concept album about identity and mental health from a band who’ve clearly put real time into making it. If you like Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov or The Blue Nile, this is worth your attention. ‘nuclear’ is out now.
Watch this space…
