Fresh from a run of live dates alongside Jamie Webster, Manchester indie trio Bank Holiday arrive with the kind of debut single that feels less like a first step and more like a statement of intent. Released on 27th May, ‘Out Of The Blue’ is a radiant, guitar-driven introduction to a band already sounding remarkably assured in their identity.

Built on shimmering riffs, punchy percussion and a grounding bassline, the track channels the spirit of ‘90s alt-rock through a modern indie lens. There’s an immediacy to the song that feels instinctive rather than manufactured, pairing high-energy instrumentation with effortlessly infectious melodies and a sharp sense of humour. Playing with familiar sayings and idioms, the lyrics lean into tongue-in-cheek storytelling while still carrying an underlying emotional honesty.

Speaking about the debut, lead singer Mac McCartney explains: “Out of the Blue’ came from an idea me and Luke had about trying to fit as many well known sayings and idioms into one song as we could. It started off as a bit of a challenge, but it ended up shaping the whole track. Luke Owens, our guitarist, records all of our stuff in his studio himself, which gave us the freedom to experiment with the track over the course of a few months and also to keep it feeling natural. It’s a song about unpredictability really, how things can change when you least expect it, but also very open ended at the same time.”

That creative freedom sits at the heart of what makes Bank Holiday such a compelling new name. Formed through long-standing friendships and a shared turning point, with each member stepping away from previous projects at the same time, the trio emerged with a renewed sense of purpose and chemistry that already feels deeply established.

Despite this being their official introduction as Bank Holiday, the band are far from newcomers to momentum. Across previous projects, the members have built an impressive list of achievements, including airplay on Radio X and Sirius XM, placements on BT Sport’s Champions League coverage and British Airways flights, as well as syncs on the BBC drama Waterloo Road.

Their recent acoustic tour with Jamie Webster has only accelerated that buzz, giving the band an opportunity to connect directly with audiences across the North West while sharpening the live energy that pulses through ‘Out Of The Blue’. It’s that same energy, vibrant, spontaneous and full of character, that makes the single feel so compelling.

For a debut release, ‘Out Of The Blue’ sounds strikingly fully formed. Confident without feeling overworked and playful without losing impact, it introduces Bank Holiday as a band arriving with clear intent and suggests they may not stay under the radar for very long.
