A trumpet is required, but a jazz recording is not.

Beyond Music’s fifth album project is accepting work across pop, classical, folk, electronic music, hip-hop, jazz and other traditions, with singers, songwriters, composers and producers invited to collaborate alongside instrumentalists.

The international open call, which is welcoming professional musicians from the United States, places the trumpet at the center of a broad creative brief. Each song must include the instrument and bring together at least four artists from at least two cultural backgrounds.

Ibrahim Maalouf will curate the project and select twelve collaborations for Beyond Music Vol.5. Born in Beirut and raised in France, Maalouf has connected jazz, Arabic traditions, classical music and contemporary sounds throughout his career. His quarter-tone trumpet was invented by his father, Nassim Maalouf.

His role will extend beyond selecting the album. One Grand Prize team will work with him in Miami in March 2027 to develop and professionally re-record its song as the official lead single. The team will also film a music video and perform a 30-minute set at one of Montreux Jazz Festival Miami’s Jam Sessions with Maalouf and special guests.

Beyond Music will cover the costs of that experience. The eleven other selected collaborations will receive awards of up to $6,000 per team, professional mastering and mixing where required.

The nonprofit’s platform gives prospective participants a way to find musicians outside their existing circles. Members can search by genre, instrument and cultural background, share recordings and develop projects together online. The organization reports members in 171 countries, and charges no registration, subscription or artist-matchmaking fees.

All contributors to an entry must be registered members. Submissions must be previously unreleased, meet a professional or semi-professional recording standard and be created without AI-generated material.

Artists have until November 23 at 9 a.m. CET, or 3 a.m. EST and midnight PST, to submit completed work. New participants can request an invitation to the community, and Maalouf’s video invitation introduces the project.
