Kildare-based quartet Blue Slate are back with their powerful new single ‘Plastic Soul’/

Following high-profile support slots with Big Special and a growing reputation on the live circuit, Blue Slate – made up of John Harney (vocals & guitar), Pierce Devine (guitar), Isabelle Murphy (bass) and Tim Tora (drums) – have been building a feverish buzz. Known for pairing thoughtful songwriting with raw intensity and infectious energy, the band have quickly established themselves as one of Ireland’s most exciting rising acts.

‘Plastic Soul’ sees the four-piece continue to tread the line between shoegaze, alt-rock and indie, delivering a warming, guitar-driven soundscape cut through by Harney’s rough, raspy vocals. The track opens with a distant, reverb-soaked guitar before exploding into a wall of strummed chords, driving drums and searing lead lines. Urgent and dynamic, it balances explosive angst with moments of melodic bliss.

As the track progresses, Blue Slate weave together indie intensity with riffs that nod towards Britpop and shoegaze, before closing on a stunning, slowly building climax of overlapping guitars – a sound that is both cathartic and commanding.

Speaking about the single, the band share:“The song is about trying to find your way in life. But when you start to reflect you realise that there is baggage that you have. The song is about the realisation of that.”

Formed around the creative partnership of Harney and Devine, who first bonded over matching Brian Jones-style haircuts and marathon listening sessions of everything from KISS to Nirvana, Blue Slate channel an eclectic range of influences. Their sound nods to The Velvet Underground, Sparklehorse and Grandaddy, while tapping into modern grunge and post-punk textures.

On the live stage, Blue Slate’s reputation continues to grow. Having played in London, Paris and at Rotterdam’s Left of the Dial festival, the band have also sold out headline shows at venues including The Workman’s Club, alongside support slots with Big Special and others.

With ‘Plastic Soul’, Blue Slate prove once again that they are a band not just on the rise, but one defining their own space within the modern rock landscape.
