With their debut full-length 'Neon Circuits and the Mission of Hope', Oklahoma City’s Blueprint Tokyo cast a luminous spell. It’s an album that both references the past while stepping through a portal made of analogue haze and digital flicker.
Opening track 'Say Anything' sets the tone with sharp guitar accents and glowing synth beds throughout. There’s an electric tension to it, a feeling of leaning into movement while still holding on to the ache of stillness. By the time 'Take My Breath' glides in, complete with smoky saxophone and soft-focus melancholy, it’s clear the band is fluent in mood as much as melody.
What sets this collection apart is the cohesion beneath the variety. There’s a unity in tone that threads each track into the next, whether it's leaning into a post-punk pulse or a dream-pop drift. The transitions are seamless, keeping the emotional through-line unbroken.
'Neon Circuits and the Mission of Hope' is a compelling reflection on time, memory, and perseverance dressed in a palette of nocturnal colours. It’s music for driving under flickering streetlamps, for walking alone but feeling understood. With this release, Blueprint Tokyo are revisiting the ghosts of alt-pop’s golden hour, and giving them new life as they go.
