Burr Island unveil their masterful blend of of nostaglic and contemporary folk in debut album 'Days Dreamt'

The UK acoustic folk duo Burr Island has officially launched their debut album, Days Dreamt, on July 5th under Left Foot Records. This album is a stellar fusion of 60s folk charm and contemporary acoustic magic. With production by Steve Cradock and mastering by Julian Lowe (renowned for his work with Jamiroquai and Massive Attack), Tom England and Oskar Porter have crafted an album that’s already turning heads, including those of industry icons like Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher.

The story behind Burr Island is as captivating as their music. During the Covid-19 lockdowns, the duo—both trained actors—redirected their creative energies to music, crafting songs on the picturesque Jurassic Coast. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon, and Cat Stevens, they have created a sound reminiscent of modern indie folk acts like Fleet Foxes and Kings of Convenience.

“We are very excited to offer this to the world. A debut record feels like a bit of a landmark and it feels like we squeezed every inch of our creativity into making it. This album is born out of a decade of friendship, it highlights our love for the natural world, includes an existential questioning and a long for the divine, and rejoices in the beauty of friendship and a gratitude for the lives we've led so far. We'd also like to thank everyone who made this possible, particularly the wonderful musicians who all added so much to the record, to Julian Lowe, our mastering engineer, and most of all, to our producer, Steve Cradock, and his wife Sally, who have worked tirelessly, taking on this project as if it was their own. We'll be forever grateful for your boundless support and generosity.”

Days Dreamt is a delicate yet powerful collection of tracks that blends vintage folk influences with modern acoustic flair. England and Porter's harmonizing vocals and intricate instrumentals create a soundscape that is both nostalgic and refreshing. Themes of friendship, nature, existential musings, and spiritual longing weave through the album, offering a deeply resonant listening experience.

In summary, Days Dreamt is a standout debut that highlights Burr Island’s talent for blending timeless folk elements with a contemporary twist. This album is a noteworthy addition to the modern folk landscape, marking Burr Island as a significant new voice in the genre.
