After a five-year hiatus from music, CamRus is making an impressive return with the glowing euphoria of new single ‘Relaxation’. The multi-hypenate New Yorker has appeared in acting roles, in his time away, but is looking to bring his creative talent back to music.
Opening with a plucky guitar, but blending the mellow finesse of R&B with that indie-pop buoyancy from the first moments, CamRus invites a soulful, glistening tone in his production.
Above comes an effortlessly smooth vocal, exploring a peace, presence and emotional connection with every word. Each swirling guitar, tight drum groove and synthesised harmony all play into the beauty of this aesthetic, leaving the listener craving more.
Adding, “For some reason when it came to the visuals for the song I couldn’t get my love for Wes Anderson’s style out of my head, so the music video is loosely inspired by it - beautiful, symmetrical, colorful wide shots with a hint of awkward - then for verse 2 it switches to a very different daydream vibe, almost Michael & Janet Jackson SCREAM inspired but more abstract, as dreams and wishes of the mind are vast and change so I wanted to reflect that. As a filmmaker I’ve also been dying to shoot something on film instead of digital too, so I’m so hyped to say that we shot the music video on 35mm film and some very special portrait stock - especially since Ryan Coogler has so many people excited about the beauty of shooting on film right now because of his movie “Sinners!” I’m so proud of what my DP Quinn Feldman, my colourist Mitch Paulson, and the rest of my super team small crew accomplished for it.”
