New York-based singer-songwriter Camryn Quinlan has made a striking debut with her new single, Hourglass. The 17-year-old has already built an impressive following, with over 219k followers on Instagram and 46k on TikTok, having performed live across New York City. Hourglass offers an exciting first glimpse of her forthcoming debut EP, If We’re Being Honest, and showcases her maturity as a songwriter through introspective and emotionally resonant music.
Produced by Baldvin Hlynsson, Hourglass envelops listeners in a warm, atmospheric soundscape driven by muted piano, tender acoustic guitar, and layers of strings, synths, and drums. The song builds to a radiant, bittersweet crescendo, creating the perfect backdrop for Quinlan’s delicate, yet powerful lead vocal. The production complements her lyrical reflections on love and loss, making the track feel both personal and universal.
At its heart, Hourglass is a poignant meditation on the fleeting nature of young love. Camryn draws from her own experiences, sharing: “Hourglass was inspired by a common high school heartbreak: long distance. Going into a relationship knowing how it would end. There felt like an expiration date, or an hourglass that was slowly running out a clock.” Her vulnerability and openness in songwriting provide a raw, authentic window into the emotional complexities of growing up and heartbreak.
The upcoming EP If We’re Being Honest promises to dive even deeper into themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth. Camryn explains that the project “is a bunch of different narrations of being in a relationship of any kind. Most of this EP is raw and true feelings that I experienced. Growing up is hard, and heartbreak is a big part of it.”
With her thoughtful lyricism and lush musical arrangements, Camryn Quinlan’s artistry is reminiscent of some of her biggest influences, including Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Chappell Roan. Like these artists, Quinlan combines a gift for storytelling with an accessible, relatable sound, making her music feel both youthful and timeless.
