If there’s one thing Broken Beautiful proves, it’s that Copper Lungs knows how to write a hook and back it up with guts! Their latest album is a punchy, polished outing that tastefully balances mainstream appeal with a DIY ethos.
Fans of Biffy Clyro and Twin Atlantic will feel right at home, yet Copper Lungs manages to carve out a space that’s uniquely theirs: big hooks, authentic storytelling, and a whole lot of pop-rock charm.
Released on the 16th of May, the Dundee four-piece shares their personal journey through life’s highs and lows. It explores themes of love, support, grief and emotional resilience, which makes its release during Mental Health Awareness Week particularly fitting. There’s beauty in the honesty here. Nothing feels surface-level.
The production from Bruce Rintoul is impressively tight, especially for an entirely self-funded project. While songs like the title track channel synth-driven urgency and explosive choruses, reworked older tracks like Space and Time and Brushed in Gold prove the band’s ability to breathe new life into familiar material.
Vocals throughout are emotive without overreaching, and Darren’s delivery often walks the line between restrained and raw, a perfect match for the layered, textured instrumentation.
Musically, the album thrives on contrast. There’s the atmospheric vibe of Falling up against the arena-sized stomp of Pieces of Me. Synths complement soaring guitars, giving songs like Free World a nostalgic yet forward-looking punch. Copper Lungs have never sounded tighter or more confident!
While the emotional weight of the album is real, this is still a record built to be played loud. It showcases the kind of craftsmanship that suggests Copper Lungs could easily play on much bigger stages than they are now. In the meantime, you can catch them on their UK tour in July, with stops in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, York, Sheffield, and London.
