CRYSOFTLY turns a Vancouver bedroom into a restless new world on 'PROMISES'

Sometimes the most ambitious music begins after dark in a bedroom, with a microphone, a collection of half-formed ideas and an artist determined to make the limited space around them feel infinite.

And that sense of private experimentation sits at the heart of 'PROMISES', the latest EP from CRYSOFTLY. Recorded at their Vancouver home and mixed entirely by the artist, the project transforms an intensely personal working environment into a sleek, nocturnal collision of melodic rap, alternative R&B and club-focused production.

The EP’s two-part construction is particularly intriguing. This is AL oversees the opening half, while JOHANMOBU shapes the latter portion, introducing a natural division within the project. But instead of weakening its cohesion, this change in production perspective gives CRYSOFTLY multiple environments in which to test the flexibility of their voice.

The EP comes across as two connected rooms separated by a subtle shift in temperature. Through both, CRYSOFTLY remains the constant presence, using a mellow vocal style to create continuity even as the surrounding rhythms and textures begin to change.

This contrast becomes especially effective when placed against the EP’s more restless percussion. Jersey club’s clipped rhythms and sudden momentum bring movement to the songs, while the drill influence adds weight and sensual unease.
