There is an unmistakable confidence running through Delta Fire’s latest single ‘Love Stops First’. As the third preview of their forthcoming 2027 album, the Glasgow quartet lean into their strengths while sharpening the identity they’ve been steadily building over recent releases.
From its opening moments, ‘Love Stops First’ wastes little time making an impression. Thick, blues-infused guitar riffs drive the song forward with purpose, while a muscular rhythm section provides the kind of groove that feels equally suited to festival stages and packed club venues alike.
One of the song’s greatest assets is its sense of movement. Andrew Knox-Watson’s drumming constantly pushes the arrangement forward with subtle tempo shifts and an infectious bounce that prevents the heavier passages from becoming static. Alongside him, Aidan Spencer delivers an assured bass performance that adds weight and melodic character that enriches the entire mix.
The twin guitar partnership between Kieron McManus and Liam McLaughlin is equally compelling. Thick rhythm guitars provide the foundation, while expressive lead lines inject flashes of colour without descending into self-indulgence. There's a refreshing understanding that memorable riffs often leave a stronger impression than technical excess, and ‘Love Stops First’ benefits enormously from that discipline.
Vocally, the band strike an appealing balance between grit and melody. The performances carry enough edge to complement the song’s muscular production, yet remain melodic enough for the chorus to leave a lasting impression.
Recorded once again at Scotland’s renowned Chem 19 Studios and mixed by Pete Maher, the track captures much of the immediacy of the band’s live sound while retaining excellent clarity. The analogue warmth is noticeable throughout, giving every instrument room to breathe without sanding away the raw edges that make the performance so engaging.
Perhaps most impressive is the sense that Delta Fire are growing more comfortable with every release. ‘Lady Danger’and ‘Eyes Burn Gold’ established the band’s range, but ‘Love Stops First’ feels like the moment those influences fully coalesce into a confident artistic statement.
If this single offers an accurate indication of what’s still to come on their forthcoming album, Delta Fire appear to be building towards their strongest chapter yet. ‘Love Stops First’ is an infectious, riff-driven reminder that honest songwriting, strong musicianship and undeniable energy remain a powerful combination in modern rock.
