DownTown Mystic keeps the wheels turning on 'Mystic Highway Road Trip'

The image of the open road has long been woven into American rock music, carrying with it ideas of freedom, escape and the possibility of starting again. And on 'Mystic Highway Road Trip', DownTown Mystic revisits that familiar landscape through six tracks shaped by steady grooves, seasoned performances and an evident affection for traditional rock songwriting.

The EP grew from responses to 2025’s 'Mystic Highway', with critics repeatedly noting how naturally its songs suited long journeys. Writer and producer Robert Allen has taken that observation seriously, gathering material that emphasises movement, optimism and the uncomplicated pleasure of a band settling into a strong rhythm.

‘Live’ carries a particularly open and encouraging character, with Jerry Fierro’s harmonica introducing a familiar roots-rock colour. The instrument complements the song’s hopeful outlook without pushing it towards caricature, adding a touch of road-worn texture to an otherwise clean arrangement.

While on ‘Losing My Mind’, guitarist Lance Doss contributes a sharper edge. The performance brings additional urgency to the song while remaining firmly connected to its melodic centre. Like much of the EP, the track succeeds by being energetic enough to hold attention, but controlled enough to avoid becoming overbearing.

Recorded at Shorefire Studios and mastered by Leon Zervos, the EP has a clear, solid sound that translates well without feeling overly compressed or artificially bright.
