Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Dublin based poet and singer-songwriter Christian Wethered today releases his debut album ‘Mon Petit Jardin’. The acclaimed musician and winner of the 2021 Melita Hume Poetry Prize, Christian has been gradually building a platform for himself over the last few months. Now showcasing his full array of talents across 8 tracks, the new album see's Christian releae some of his most accomplished work.

Bringing together his dark contemporary Folk with elements of Indie, Pop, a French flare and his stylistic poetic lyricism, Christian captures something special on the album - personal, delicate and tender but with a range of influences that give his a music a distinctive edge. From the eery opening track 'La Madeleine' to the stripped back yet clearly Indie influenced ‘Way Back’, to the swaying Jazz infused multi-lingual ‘Mademoiselle’, to the hard hitting lead single ‘Mr Medicine Man’, there is multiple layers to the album, a range of emotions and much to discover.

Speaking on the new album Christian said: “The album is about loss and abandonment in the context of suffering from M.E. (Myalgic Encephalitis).

It’s predominantly a folk/ alternative album and also has a retro French vibe (Gainsbourg, Dutronc, Barbara), which derives from when I was living in France. The album is ostensibly about a break up in France, so the French Chanson went hand in hand. The session players included Soda Blonde's drummer Dyl Lynch and Basciville's Cil Byrne, both experts in their trade.”
