London-based solo artist easyclear has released his debut EP Green, a five-track exploration that blurs the lines between the organic and the digital. Out today, the record showcases a unique fusion of acoustic folk, analog synth textures and indie-inspired songwriting, reflecting a sonic vision that is both intimate and expansive.
Simply titled Green, the EP marks a significant artistic statement from Luke Deacon, the creative force behind easyclear. Recorded at Strongroom Studios and produced by Alex O’Donovan—whose credits include Sea Girls, Kelly Lee Owens, and Boston Manor—the collection of songs melds traditional songwriting with a forward-thinking approach to production. The result is a layered, immersive soundscape that evokes comparisons to artists like Djo and Westerman.
Rooted in acoustic and classical guitar, Deacon’s compositions draw influence from Arthur Russell, Bert Jansch and Elliott Smith. These foundations are expanded with rich analog synths, textural percussion, and manipulated tape sounds. Each track is carefully sculpted to highlight contrasts—between the natural and the artificial, the tender and the turbulent.
Lead single Teammate exemplifies this balance, combining tight drum grooves, swirling synths and a chorus of electronic embellishments that underscore the track’s heartfelt message about companionship. Across the EP, heavily distorted guitars, punchy basslines, and ambient sound design provide a backdrop for Deacon’s emotive vocal delivery.
Speaking about the project, Deacon said:“The worldbuilding is one of my favourite thing we achieved with Green. The process involved being very sensitive to the naked tunes I had written - finding ways for modern technology to inhabit and develop the songs in a manner that felt either harmonious, or excitingly discordant.I came to see some of the sounds we generated as cartoonish characters - a ghostly cat solo at the end of The Pigeon, or the sweet birds on Interlude. This use of the machine to create expressive and alive-feeling characters brought me a lot of joy. For me it lends the songs a distinct, gentle, haunting quality.”
Green arrives following a steady stream of early press acclaim. Previously a member of bands including Young Khan and Kid Jupiter, Deacon now steps forward with a distinct musical identity in easyclear. With Green, he delivers on the promise of earlier singles, carving out a sonic niche that feels both personal and progressive.
The EP is available now on all major streaming platforms.
