evolution 9 revive four-decade-old song on ‘Sweet Number One’

US project evolution 9 have released “Sweet Number One”, a new single with roots stretching back to the mid-80s.
Songwriter and keyboardist Dave Follweiler originally wrote and demoed the track after being inspired by Lehigh Valley band St John’s Alliance. Although he initially offered the song to the group, it remained unreleased until Follweiler recently returned to the material and completed a new studio version.
The finished recording features Follweiler on keyboards and vocals, alongside guitarist Gene Cullison, Hub Willson on harmony vocals and percussion, and drummer Jon Lamson. Bob Giovannetti handled mixing and mastering at Crystal Pig Recording Studio.
Musically, the track draws from British Invasion pop and 1970s power pop, combining bright guitar textures and layered harmonies with lyrics about jealousy and lost love.
“Sweet Number One” has already passed 12,000 Spotify streams, continuing evolution 9’s recent growth across streaming platforms.
