With their latest outing 'In The Valley of the Cherry Trees', Glass Rumours slip out of the expected and into something more ritualistic.
From the outset, the track simmers with a slow, magnetic tension. The vocals arrive like a spell murmured through candle smoke; intimate, but laced with something that chills. Behind them, the arrangement swells and recedes like a tide stirred by unnamed forces. There’s an elegance to it, but also unease, as if each melodic rise is being followed too closely by its own shadow.
While traces of classic rock and ghostly folk remain embedded in the DNA, Glass Rumours refuse to play the role of revivalists. Instead, they twist their influences into thornier shapes. The choral flourishes and echoing guitars give the song a near-religious weight, but any hint of salvation is quickly offset by darker urges creeping in around the edges.
Lyrically, it’s more a haunted painting, where each line is a brushstroke revealing more of the emotional terrain. The titular “valley” becomes a metaphor for surrender, both romantic and psychological. There’s an undercurrent of obsession, but also a strange kind of peace in the descent.
Glass Rumours have always had a taste for the dramatic, but 'Cherry Trees' doesn’t just flirt with theatricality, it fully commits to it. Rather than chase bombast, they weaponise restraint. The danger is in how softly it beckons.
For a band already known for pushing the boundaries of indie-rock into darker, more adventurous territory, this latest release marks another bold step into their own mythos. 'In The Valley of the Cherry Trees' is a siren song, the kind you follow, even when you know better.
