Music enthusiasts are in for a treat as the official Alternative Great Escape Stage gears up to showcase a diverse array of talent at the Secret Comedy Club in Brighton Square on Thursday, May 16th, from 12pm to 4pm. Curated by PR & Planetary Group, this showcase promises an eclectic mix of indie, folk, pop, and art-rock performances that will captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression.
Leading the lineup is the captivating Marissa Burwell, whose blindingly personal work resonates with audiences through enchanting indie melodies that traverse sensuous to exhilaratingly raucous moments. Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Burwell's remarkable debut EP in 2019 set the stage for international recognition, leading to her acclaimed debut album, "Bittersweet," in 2022. Her warm vocals and wry wit have graced renowned events like Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival and SXSW, solidifying her status as a rising star in the indie scene.
Also gracing the stage is the award-winning duo No Windows, whose fusion of DIY, folk, and classic pop has garnered praise from critics and fans alike. Comprised of Verity Blossom and Morgan Morris, the Edinburgh-based duo's latest EP, "Point Nemo," evokes wintry isolation and showcases their effortless musical chemistry, drawing inspiration from artists like Elliott Smith and Cocteau Twins.
HMS Morris, a bilingual, award-winning, female-fronted art-rock four-piece from Cardiff, Wales, will showcase their innovative sound that has been described as "strange and beautiful" by Electronic Sound and "multi-dimensional" by Clash. Their dynamic live performances are not to be missed, offering a unique blend of pop sensibilities and experimental theatrics that captivate audiences.
Rounding out the lineup is the mesmerizing Asha Jefferies, whose debut album "Ego Ride" offers moments of self-reflection and authenticity. Hailing from the Northern Rivers in Australia but raised in Brisbane, Jefferies has toured with acclaimed acts like Julia Jacklin and Stella Donnelly, solidifying her status as an emerging talent in the indie-pop scene.
And finally, epic pop pioneers My Life Story, led by charismatic frontman Jake Shillingford, will grace the stage with their latest studio album, "Loving You Is Killing Me." With themes of empathy, profaneness, and vaingloriousness, My Life Story promises a dynamic performance that will leave audiences wanting more.
