INTERVIEW: AMANDA STEWART

Amanda Stewart has an instant aura of bringing you back to the early 2000s. Her traditional country roots have influenced her from a young age alongside a lovely mixture of pop and folk, making for a sultry combination. Her debut album is on the horizon, and new single 'More Than A Good Cry' is our first taste of it, and it hasn't disappointed. We sat down with Amanda to learn all about her single and much more.

Hey Amanda, welcome to FLEX! How have you been?

I’ve been wonderful! Just performing and writing as much as I can, and enjoying the response from my first two release singles!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single "More Than A Good Cry”?

This song was written with two talented artists/songwriters, Jenn Bostic and Elliott Blaufuss. It’s a song about reflecting on the loss of someone, whether a failed relationship or death, and realising that it won’t be easy to get over it. “ It’s going to take more than a good cry to wake up and be alright. “

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I have seen loss- the passing of my father, and of course, a failed relationship or two. Both were definitely front of mind in writing this song.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Tbd. I’ve been working with some talented people on this possibility :)

How was the recording and writing process?

It was a little more difficult to write this song than any other in the past. There were definitely a couple of drafts that we revised quite a bit before getting it right. It’s a hard subject to approach… especially because I think it’s so relatable. I wanted people to be able to listen to this song and identify with it in their own ways.

What made this want to be your second single?

It’s probably one of my favourite songs I’ve written. I’m so proud of the work we all out into it!

You have a debut album on the horizon - exciting! How's that coming along?

It’s ready to go! I cannot wait for it to be out. It definitely tells a story- my story, from start to finish.

What else is happening next in Amanda Stewart's world?

I’ve already been writing for album number two. I’m heading back to Nashville in a couple of weeks to do even more co writing, and to play a couple of shows while I’m there. This summer is going to be fantastic. I have a few exciting shows lined up (TBA) but I’m most excited about performing with my bandmates- getting them comfortable with my songs, so we are ready to tour, hopefully this fall!
