Interview - Black Hertz

Ellie McGuire

Black Hertz returns with his latest EP 'Psyche' with Hozho. In this EP, they tell their listeners stories in their own language and invite them into the mental eclipses they create, dreaming of making a visual and audio mediative presentation.

We sat down with Black Hertz to discuss his music and much more. Here's what he had to say:

Hey Black Hertz, welcome to FLEX! How are you?

I'm fine, thanks for asking, how are you?

Congratulations on your new EP 'Psyche' with Hozho - what inspired this particular project?

What inspired us the most on this EP was certainly the way we deal with music, because there are ups and downs when it comes to producing, we went through the psyche process for sure, with the Ego, and Superego, and consequently the ID.

And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?

Preferably in the morning, after a nice cup of coffee.

How was the recording and writing process?

We started one of the songs from this project in 2020, "Ego", on the internet before the pandemic, the second "ID", we started in São Paulo at my old studio, and it was the first time we sat down to produce something in person, months later we finished them all in Portugal at Hozho's studio including Superego. And also with the vocal recording process, mix, and master, it was really a trip.

For viewers who don’t know Black Hertz, how would you describe your sound?

Well, Black Hertz transcends the boundaries of electronic music, exploring minimal and techno in ways that deeply touch the souls of listeners. His unique artistic approach is highlighted by melodic and introspective compositions that carry a sense of melancholy and mystery. Each track is carefully crafted to create a captivating atmosphere, taking the audience on a journey of self-discovery.

And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?

Well, I like to read, play games, and enjoy a good cup of coffee in my spare time.
