Interview - Caleb Peters

Caleb Peters is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter-producer. He was originally discovered in 2020 when his cover of ‘Sweater Weather’ went viral online. Since then, he has garnered the attention of various companies such as Lyrical Lemonade and Urban Outfitters, and has led to a song collaboration with Lil B the Based God. He has just signed his first publishing deal with Neil Jacobson and his company Hallwood Media. Neil is the manager of five-time Grammy Award winning producer Jeff Bhasker, and is the former president of Geffen Records.

He unveils his brand-new track ‘ROUNDABOUT’ flavoured with indie-pop sensibilities leaning with elements of electronic music, noting that he wants to make an impact with his music for people to imitate what he does.

We sat down with Caleb Peters to discuss his music and much more. Here is what he had to say:

Hey Caleb Peters, welcome to FLEX! How are you? I'm good. I'm currently putting together everything for my next show on November 26th. Congratulations on your latest single ROUNDABOUT - what inspired this particular track? The song was mainly inspired by feelings I had at the time of being paranoid.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? Not particularly, I just felt paranoid in general and was inspired to write/produce the song. And do you have to be in a certain mood to write? Not really unless I'm alone, but if I'm with people I can hop in usually in any mood. Any plans to release any sort of video for the track? Yes, I released the music video last Friday.

How was the recording and writing process? I just wrote it while I was in the process of producing it. I usually do this section by section. For viewers that don’t know Caleb Peters, how would you describe your sound? Modern. What’s the music scene like where you live? Community based, mainly based on genuine friendships. And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio? I'm building a game cube game collection and the soundtracks have been very inspiring to my work.
