We sat down with Nova Rose to discuss her music and much more. Here is what she had to say:
Hey Nova Rose, welcome to FLEX! How are you?
Hey! Thank you so much for having me. I’m doing great.
Congratulations on your brand-new self-titled EP - what inspired this particular project?
Thank you! There’s a lot of thought that went into this project. Last year I got dropped from my label and I wanted to go back to the drawing board in terms of the sound I wanted to have as an artist and who I was. So for me, this project is a reset and I chose to self-title the project as I believe it represents exactly who I am as an artist. Each song also represents a stage in “breakup grief”, the order of the tracks in the EP represents each stage.
And do you have to be in a certain mood to write?
Sometimes, especially when I’m writing alone. I usually write with one of my good friends Mark Vesprini and we tend to bounce our feelings off of each other which tends to help with the idea flow.
How was the recording and writing process?
There’s some songs on this EP that were written a long time ago but they never fit the “sound” my label was going for. The recording proceeded super fast, I think it took us two or three days to track all of the vocals.
For viewers who don't know Nova Rose, how would you describe your sound?
Dark pop, sometimes fun and sometimes sad. I always encourage listeners to truly listen to the lyrics, they’re not just there to be there. There’s a lot of meaning behind them.
And what are some of those activities that you engage yourself in when you aren't writing or recording in the studio?
I’ll usually practice the violin and create content for my social media channels.
